Arranging Tips for Assorted Peonies (May–June Weddings & Events)

1. Group by Color or Blend Gradually

For a clean look, cluster similar shades (e.g., blush, coral, and white).

For a natural garden style, create soft color transitions throughout the arrangement.

2. Use Peonies as Focal Blooms

Their size and texture make them perfect focal flowers. Build around them with smaller blooms like spray roses or lisianthus.

3. Balance with Texture

Add in fillers like astilbe, Queen Anne’s lace, or eucalyptus to soften the overall shape and add movement.

4. Mix Bloom Stages

Combine tight buds, half-open, and fully open peonies for depth and a natural, just-picked feel.

5. Choose Neutral Accents

Use whites, creams, and pale greens to let the peonies shine without overwhelming the color mix.

6. Design for Longevity

Keep peonies cool during arranging. Place finished pieces in a floral cooler or air-conditioned space until the event.

Care & Handling for Assorted Peonies (May–June Weddings & Events)

1. Unpack Immediately

Carefully remove sleeves and rubber bands to allow airflow and prevent petal bruising.

2. Trim Stems

Cut 1–2 inches off each stem at a 45° angle under clean, running water to maximize water absorption.

3. Hydrate in Clean Buckets

Place stems in sanitized containers filled with fresh, cool water and floral preservative. Remove any foliage below the waterline.

4. Store in a Cool Room

Keep in a well-ventilated space at 65–72°F. Avoid refrigeration—peonies need warmth to open fully.

5. Allow 3–4 Days to Bloom

Peonies arrive in bud form and need 3–4 days to open. Rotate buckets daily for even blooming.

6. Change Water Daily

Refresh water and re-cut stems every 24 hours to extend vase life and prevent bacteria buildup.

7. Use at Peak Bloom

Arrange when blooms are about 75% open for the fullest, fluffiest presentation at your event.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
