Arranging Tips

Arranging Tips for Coral Peonies:

1. Let Them Open:

Condition your coral peonies 3–4 days in advance. Allow them to fully open to showcase their vibrant color and fluffy texture.

2. Color Pairing:

Complementary flowers: Use soft peach roses, blush garden roses, ivory ranunculus, and white hydrangeas for a romantic palette.

Add contrast with blue thistle, dusty miller, or silver brunia to ground the brightness.

3. Structure First:

Start with a greenery base like eucalyptus or olive branch to create a natural framework. Add coral peonies as your focal blooms.

4. Work in Triangles:

Place peonies in triangular groupings for balance and flow. This technique gives your arrangement a designer finish.

5. Layer by Height:

Vary stem lengths—keep peonies slightly above secondary flowers to let their fullness shine, while filler flowers fill the in-between spaces.

6. Use Supporting Fillers:

Wax flower, astilbe, or Queen Anne’s lace fill gaps and soften edges without overpowering the coral hue.

7. Secure with Floral Tape or Chicken Wire:

In vases or compotes, use chicken wire or a floral tape grid to keep stems in place for a pro-level structure.

Care

Care & Handling – Fresh Coral Peonies

1. Unpack Immediately:

Upon arrival, carefully unpack your peonies. Remove any plastic sleeves and excess foliage.

2. Hydration is Key:

Trim stems at a 45° angle under clean water. Place immediately in buckets of cool, clean water with floral preservative.

3. Store in a Cool Place:

Keep peonies in a cool room (around 36–50°F) away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not store in a freezer or near produce.

4. Allow 4+ Days to Open:

Peonies arrive in tight bud form and typically need 4–5 days to fully open. To speed up blooming slightly, move them to room temperature and re-trim the stems daily.

5. Refresh Water Daily:

Change water every 24 hours, re-cut stems, and keep buckets clean to prevent bacteria buildup.

6. Remove Guard Petals:

Once blooms start to open, gently remove any bruised or outer guard petals for a cleaner look.

7. Avoid Overexposure:

Do not expose peonies to excessive warmth or sunlight too early, as this may cause them to open too quickly and wilt before your event.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
