Care & Handlling

Boxwood Greenery Care & Handling Instructions

Upon Arrival:

  1. Unpack Immediately – Remove boxwood from the box as soon as it arrives.
  2. Trim Stems – Re-cut stems at a 45-degree angle under clean water to allow for better hydration.
  3. Hydrate – Place the stems in buckets of clean, room-temperature water. Make sure the leaves are not submerged to prevent decay.
  4. Remove Any Leaves Below Waterline – This helps prevent bacterial growth in the water.

Storage Tips:

  • Store in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not refrigerate boxwood below 40°F, as it can damage the leaves.
  • Keep in fresh water and change it daily to prolong the life of the greenery.

Pre-Event Preparation:

  • Mist lightly to maintain leaf hydration and vibrancy.
  • For garlands or table runners, prepare designs 1–2 days before the event and store them in a cool area.
  • If using floral foam, insert boxwood stems after soaking the foam thoroughly.

Lifespan:

  • Fresh boxwood lasts 7–10 days with proper care. For extended display (like wedding arches or wall installations), use floral mist or anti-transpirants to help maintain freshness longer.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
