To get the most beauty and longevity out of your custom-selected garden roses, proper care and handling is essential. These premium bulk flowers are delicate, fragrant, and full-petaled—requiring thoughtful preparation to help them bloom at their best.
Unboxing & Preparation

-
Remove any leaves that would fall below the water line.
-
Some roses may arrive with guard petals—outer petals left on during shipping to protect the inner bloom. These can be gently removed before arranging.
Hydration Process
-
Fill clean buckets or containers with lukewarm water and floral preservative.
-
If floral preservative is not available, add 1–2 drops of bleach per gallon to reduce bacteria growth.
-
Re-cut each stem at a 45° angle under water using clean, sharp shears to avoid air blockages and encourage maximum hydration.
-
Immediately place the roses into the water solution.
-
Allow your roses to hydrate in a cool, shaded area or floral cooler for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Temperature & Storage
-
Do not store below 40°F. Chilling damage (“burning”) can occur with temperatures that are too low.
-
If using a household refrigerator, remove all fruits and vegetables first—these produce ethylene gas which shortens vase life.
-
If a floral cooler is not available, keep roses in the coolest indoor spot possible, away from sunlight, heating vents, or warm appliances.
Opening Control
-
If your roses are not opening quickly enough:
-
Keep them at room temperature (not exceeding 72°F).
-
Gently blow into the center of each rose or carefully open the petals by hand, as professional florists often do.
-
-
If the roses are opening too fast:
-
Move them to a cooler area and use cold water to help slow the process.
-
Design Notes
-
Garden roses generally perform better in vase arrangements than in foam, but if foam is necessary, use high-absorption floral foam like “Springtime” for improved hydration.
-
Monitor water levels daily—garden roses are heavy drinkers. Keep containers at least half full.
By following these steps, your custom color garden roses will open beautifully and last longer—delivering vibrant, fragrant impact for your wedding, event, or floral display.
