Q&A for Fresh Cut Red Sunflowers

Q: What should I look for when buying fresh cut red tinted sunflowers?

A: Look for sunflowers with vibrant red hues and firm stems. The petals should be intact and brightly colored, indicating freshness. Avoid flowers with wilting petals or drooping stems, as these are signs of age and may not last long.

Q: How can I care for my red tinted sunflowers to make them last longer?

A: Trim the stems at an angle before placing them in water to improve water uptake. Use clean, cool water and change it every couple of days. Keep the sunflowers in a cool environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prolong their freshness.

Q: Are red tinted sunflowers a natural color or are they dyed?

A: Red tinted sunflowers are usually dyed to achieve their vivid color. This process enhances their natural beauty and allows for a wider variety of shades to match specific decorations or themes.

Q: Can I use red tinted sunflowers for both indoor and outdoor decorations?

A: Yes, red tinted sunflowers are quite versatile and can enhance both indoor and outdoor settings. Their bold color and striking appearance make them a popular choice for wedding bouquets, centerpieces, and event decorations.

Q: What occasions are best suited for using red tinted sunflowers?

A: Red tinted sunflowers are ideal for fall weddings, festive gatherings, and events that celebrate the warmth and vibrancy of the autumn season. They can add a dramatic touch to any celebration, enhancing the overall aesthetic with their rich hues.

Red Sunflowers Care & Handling

To ensure the longevity and vibrant appearance of your fresh cut red sunflowers, proper care and handling are essential. Here are some key tips for maintaining their beauty:

  1. Initial Preparation: Upon receiving your red sunflowers, remove any packaging carefully. Inspect the stems and trim about an inch off the bottom at a 45-degree angle. This step increases the surface area for water absorption.
  2. Water and Vase: Use a clean vase with lukewarm water and add a floral preservative if available. This will provide the necessary nutrients to keep the flowers fresh. Ensure that no leaves are submerged in the water to prevent bacteria growth.
  3. Placement: Position the sunflowers in a cool area away from direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources, as these can accelerate wilting. A stable environment helps in maintaining their brilliant color and form.
  4. Maintenance: Change the water every two days to keep it fresh. Recut the stems slightly each time you change the water to maintain optimal water uptake. Removing any wilting petals or leaves will also help extend their lifespan.
  5. Monitoring: Keep an eye on the flowers and promptly address any signs of dehydration or wilting by adjusting their environment or recutting their stems. This attentive care will ensure that your red sunflowers remain a vibrant addition to any space.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
