Care & Handling

Care & Handling Instructions: Festiva Maxima Peony Flower

  1. Unpack Immediately:
Upon arrival, unpack the flowers carefully and inspect for freshness. Trim stems by ½ inch at a 45° angle under clean, running water.
  2. Hydration:
Place the peonies in a clean bucket with fresh, lukewarm water mixed with floral preservative. Allow 6–24 hours to hydrate and begin opening.
  3. Storage:
Store in a cool, dark location between 36–42°F if not immediately displayed. Avoid storing near fruits or in drafty areas.
  4. Blooming Time:
Peonies will arrive in bud form and begin opening within 24–48 hours. For events, allow 2–3 days before peak bloom.
  5. Water Change:
Replace water every 24–48 hours and re-trim stems to maintain hydration and prevent bacterial growth.
  6. Handling:
Avoid touching petals directly as oils from your skin can damage delicate blooms. Handle by the stems when possible.
  7. Display:
Keep away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and fans. Ideal placement is in a cool, shaded environment with good airflow.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
