Care & Handling

Care & Handling for Alstroemeria – Choose Your Colors

To ensure maximum freshness and vase life, follow these care steps upon receiving your Alstroemeria:

1. Unpack Immediately:
Carefully remove flowers from the box upon arrival. Gently remove all packaging materials (plastic sleeves, rubber bands, etc.).

2. Trim Stems:
Using sharp scissors or floral shears, cut 1 inch off the stems at a diagonal under running water. This improves water intake.

3. Hydrate in Clean Water:
Place the stems in a clean vase or container filled with fresh, lukewarm water and floral preservative. Avoid using metal containers, as they affect the flowers.

4. Remove Foliage Below Water Line:
Strip any leaves that would fall below the water level to prevent bacterial growth.

5. Store in a Cool Area:
Keep the flowers in a cool environment (ideally 36–72°F). Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafty locations.

6. Re-Cut and Refresh Water Every 2–3 Days:
Change the water regularly and re-cut stems to maintain hydration and prevent early wilting.

7. Allow to Bloom:
Alstroemeria arrive in tight or semi-bud form and bloom beautifully over time. Give them 24–48 hours in water for full opening.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
