Tips to Arrange Fresh Cut Roses Like a Pro

Trim Stems at an Angle

Always trim rose stems at a 45-degree angle before placing them in a vase. This increases the surface area for water uptake, helping the roses stay fresh and hydrated for longer periods.

 Remove Foliage Below the Waterline

Strip away any leaves or foliage that would sit below the waterline in your vase. This prevents bacterial growth, which can shorten the lifespan of your roses and cloud the water.

Use Floral Preservative

Add a floral preservative to your vase water to nourish the roses and keep them looking vibrant. Alternatively, you can create a DIY preservative using a mixture of sugar, white vinegar, and a pinch of bleach.

Change the Water Regularly

Refresh the water in your vase every two to three days, cleaning the vase thoroughly each time. This minimizes bacteria and keeps your arrangement looking pristine for longer.

Play with Heights and Textures

Vary the height of the roses in your arrangement for a professional layered look. Incorporate greenery or other blooms to add texture and make the arrangement feel full and dynamic.

Care

Care and Handling for Fresh Cut Wholesale Roses for Weddings and Events

Proper care and handling of fresh cut wholesale roses are essential to ensure they remain vibrant and beautiful throughout weddings and events. Below are key steps to maintain the quality and longevity of your roses:

Unpack and Hydrate Immediately

Upon receiving the roses, carefully unpack them and remove any protective wrapping. Trim the stems at a 45-degree angle under running water using clean, sharp shears. Place the roses in a clean container with fresh, lukewarm water and floral preservative to encourage hydration.

Store in a Cool Environment

Keep the roses in a cool, dark location away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources. Ideal storage temperatures range between 34–38°F. Avoid overcrowding the roses to maintain sufficient airflow and prevent bruising.

Remove Guard Petals and Thorns

Before arranging, gently remove any outer guard petals or damaged petals to enhance the appearance of the roses. If necessary, remove thorns carefully using specialized tools to avoid damaging the stems.

Hydrate Continuously

Throughout the preparation process, ensure the roses remain hydrated. Use clean water and replenish the floral preservative as required. Avoid letting the roses sit in dirty or stagnant water.

Prepare Arrangements Close to the Event Time

For weddings and events, assemble floral arrangements as close to the occasion as possible to guarantee maximum freshness. Once arranged, mist the roses lightly with water to maintain their vibrancy, and transport them in a temperature-controlled environment to the event venue.

By following these care and handling practices, wholesale roses will maintain their elegance and charm, creating stunning arrangements perfect for any special occasion.

What our customers say...

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
