Designing Tips

DIY Floral Design Tips: Achillea Yarrow Yellow

1. Build a Color Story

Pair yellow Achillea with soft pastels (blush, ivory) for a romantic look, or with deep burgundies and greenery for bold contrast. Yellow is a strong accent — use it to brighten or ground the palette.

2. Use Yarrow as a Textural Filler

Yarrow’s clustered blooms add volume and movement. Layer it behind focal flowers (like garden roses, peonies, or ranunculus) to give dimension and a lush, garden-style finish.

3. Cut Stems at Varying Heights

For bouquets and centerpieces, stagger the stem lengths slightly so the flowers don’t sit flat. This adds visual interest and flow, like a pro-designed arrangement.

4. Cluster in Groups of 3–5

For balance, arrange Yarrow in natural-looking mini clusters, mimicking how it grows. Avoid placing single stems evenly throughout — grouping gives a designer touch.

5. Blend with Soft Greenery

Pair with eucalyptus, olive branches, or ruscus to soften the bold yellow. Greenery provides structure and blends well with Yarrow’s feathery texture.

6. Use Foam or Chicken Wire in Vases

Skip floral foam if possible and opt for eco-friendly mechanics like floral tape grids or chicken wire to hold stems in place while designing.

7. Let It Shine in Rustic & Boho Designs

Achillea Yarrow Yellow is ideal for boho, rustic, garden, and vintage-themed events. It looks stunning in mason jars, wrapped bouquets, urns, and asymmetrical arches.

8. Save Some to Dry

After the event, hang leftover Yarrow upside down to create dried arrangements, wreaths, or keepsake bouquets.

Yarrow Yellow Care & Handling

Care & Handling Instructions: Yellow Achillea Yarrow (Bulk)

  1. Unpack Immediately

Carefully remove the bunches from the box upon arrival. Inspect for any damage from transit.

  2. Trim the Stems

Using clean, sharp floral shears, cut 1 to 2 inches off the base of each stem at a 45-degree angle under running water. This improves water uptake.

  3. Remove Lower Foliage

Strip any leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.

  4. Hydrate in Clean Water

Place stems in buckets with fresh, room-temperature water mixed with floral preservative. Allow to hydrate for 4–6 hours, ideally overnight, before use.

  5. Storage Conditions

Store hydrated stems in a cool room between 36°F and 50°F. Avoid direct sunlight, drafts, and ethylene-producing fruits.

  6. Ready for Design

Once fully hydrated, stems are ready for bouquets, centerpieces, or event installations. Yarrow Achillea is known for its strong stems, long vase life (7–10 days), and minimal drooping.

  7. Optional Drying

If desired, Yarrow dries beautifully. Simply hang upside down in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area for long-lasting preserved arrangements.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.

  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.

  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
