Care & Handling

Care & Handling for Altamira Red Roses

  1. Unpacking: Gently remove the roses from the packaging to avoid damaging the delicate petals. Handle with care and inspect for freshness.

  2. Trimming Stems: Cut each stem at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or floral shears to promote proper water absorption.

  3. Hydration: Immediately place the trimmed roses in a vase or bucket filled with fresh, cool water and add floral food to extend their vase life.

  4. Water Maintenance: Change the water every 24-48 hours and clean the vase to prevent bacterial growth, which can shorten the life of the roses.

  5. Storage: Keep the roses in a cool, shaded area, away from direct sunlight, heat, and drafts. Ideal storage temperature is between 36-38°F until they are ready for display.

  6. Leaf Removal: Remove any leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent bacterial buildup and ensure the roses stay fresh longer.

  7. Display: Once arranged, place the roses in a cool location, away from direct sunlight and heat, to maintain their vibrant appearance.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
