Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Purple & Lavender Sweet Peas

Domestic Crop • Available March–August

1. Celebrate the Seasonal Color

Purple and lavender sweet peas are a spring-to-summer gem.

  • Spring Weddings: Pair with blush ranunculus, anemones, and lilac for a soft pastel palette.
  • Summer Events: Combine with bright lisianthus, dahlias, or roses for a fresh, vibrant look.

2. Bouquet Inspiration

  • Bridal Bouquets: Use purple sweet peas as the star flower for a whimsical, fragrant look.
  • Bridesmaids: Mix with lavender stock and light greenery for a cohesive bridal party style.
  • Texture Tip: Add scabiosa, clematis, or feathery astilbe to enhance movement and depth.

3. Centerpieces & Table Styling

  • Soft Romantic Designs: Arrange with ivory peonies or garden roses in footed compotes.
  • Modern Tablescapes: Pair with sleek black or gold vessels for contrast and drama.
  • Fragrance Factor: Position near guest tables so their light scent is noticed.

4. Ceremony Installations

  • Arches & Chuppahs: Intertwine along greenery for a trailing, climbing effect.
  • Pew/Chair Décor: Small clusters tied with silk ribbon add a sweet, elegant touch.

5. Color Palettes to Try

  • Soft & Dreamy: Lavender, blush, ivory, sage.
  • Regal & Bold: Deep purple, burgundy, navy, gold.
  • Fresh Summer: Lilac, peach, butter yellow, mint.

6. Design Tips for Bulk Use

  • Sort & Hydrate Early: Separate by stem length for faster arranging.
  • Assembly-Line Design: Prepare multiple bouquets/centerpieces at once for efficiency.
  • Layered Look: Use taller stems for height and shorter stems as filler or accents.

Care & Handling

Care & Handling Guide for Purple & Lavender Sweet Peas

Domestic Crop • Available March–August

1. Unpack with Care

  • Open the box as soon as it arrives.
  • Gently remove bunches — sweet peas are delicate and bruise easily.
  • Keep upright to prevent bending or snapping stems.

2. Hydration & Conditioning

  • Trim Stems: Cut ½ inch off the bottom at a diagonal under cool, running water.
  • Clean Buckets: Fill with fresh, cool water and add flower food (if provided).
  • Conditioning Time: Allow 4–6 hours to fully hydrate before designing — this ensures strong, perky blooms on event day.

3. Proper Storage

  • Temperature: Store at 36–41°F (2–5°C) in a cooler or cool room.
  • Avoid Heat & Sun: Keep away from direct sunlight and warm air vents.
  • Ethylene Gas Sensitive: Do not store near ripening fruit or vegetables.

4. Daily Maintenance

  • Refresh water daily to prevent bacteria growth.
  • Recut stems every 24 hours for maximum hydration.
  • Remove any wilted blooms or leaves to keep bunches looking fresh.

5. Design Day & Event Tips

  • Keep stems in water until right before arranging.
  • Work in a cool, shaded space to prevent premature wilting.
  • For outdoor weddings/events, keep finished arrangements shaded until set up.
  • Design 1–2 days before the event so flowers are at peak bloom.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
