Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Cream & Ivory Sweet Peas

Domestic Crop (Available March–August)

1. Seasonal

Since they’re available in spring through late summer, they’re perfect for:

  • Spring Weddings: Pair with blush ranunculus, white anemones, and hellebores for a fresh, airy look.
  • Summer Events: Combine with pale dahlias, lisianthus, or stock for a light, romantic aesthetic.

2. Bouquet Styling

  • Bridal Bouquets: Use cream sweet peas as the main flower or delicate filler to add soft movement.
  • Color Pairings: Blend with ivory garden roses, champagne spray roses, and pale peach blooms for an elegant, tone-on-tone bouquet.
  • Textural Contrast: Add greenery like dusty miller, smilax, or Italian ruscus for a natural garden feel.

3. Centerpieces & Table Arrangements

  • Low Compotes: Arrange them to spill gently over the sides, highlighting their natural drape.
  • Farm-to-Table Style: Use them in mason jars or ceramic vases for a casual, fresh-picked look.
  • Luxurious Designs: Cluster with peonies or hydrangeas for lush, premium centerpieces.

4. Ceremony Décor

  • Arches & Chuppahs: Use sweet peas to create soft, flowing lines and accent greenery installations.
  • Pew/Chair Décor: Tie small clusters with silk ribbon for a romantic touch.

5. Boutonnieres & Corsages

Their petite blooms make excellent accent flowers:

  • Add one or two sweet pea blossoms for a sophisticated, fragrant boutonniere.
  • Pair with herbs like rosemary or lavender for a natural, organic feel.

6. Color-Perfect Styling

Cream/ivory sweet peas complement almost any palette:

  • Neutral Weddings: Combine with whites, beiges, and soft greenery for a timeless look.
  • Bold Palettes: Use them to soften rich tones like burgundy, navy, or deep emerald for balanced arrangements.

Care & Handling

Care & Handling Guide for Cream/Ivory Sweet Peas

Domestic Crop • Available March–August

1. Unpack Immediately

  • Open the box as soon as it arrives.
  • Gently remove bunches — cream sweet peas have delicate, ruffled petals that bruise easily.
  • Keep upright to avoid stem bending.

2. Hydrate Properly

  • Trim Stems: Cut ½ inch from the bottom at a diagonal under running water.
  • Use Clean Buckets: Fill with fresh, cool water and add flower food if provided.
  • Conditioning Time: Allow 4–6 hours of hydration before designing — this ensures maximum freshness for event day.

3. Storage Conditions

  • Temperature: Store at 36–41°F (2–5°C) in a cooler or cool room.
  • Avoid Direct Sun & Heat: Keep away from windows, heat vents, or drafts.
  • Ethylene Sensitive: Do not store near ripening fruit or vegetables — ethylene gas can shorten vase life.

4. Daily Maintenance

  • Change water every 24 hours.
  • Re-cut stems daily to maximize water uptake.
  • Remove any wilted blooms to maintain bouquet quality and prevent bacterial growth.

5. Design & Event Day Tips

  • Keep stems in water until just before arranging.
  • Work in a cool, shaded space — heat causes petals to wilt quickly.
  • For outdoor events, keep completed arrangements shaded until setup.
  • Design them 1–2 days prior to the event to ensure peak bloom and fragrance.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
