Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Red & Burgundy Sweet Peas

1. Make the Color the Star

Red and burgundy sweet peas are perfect for creating warmth, romance, and drama in your event flowers.

  • Pair With: Blush roses, ivory lisianthus, champagne ranunculus, and dusty pink peonies for a balanced romantic look.
  • For Drama: Combine with burgundy dahlias, black scabiosa, or deep plum carnations for a bold, moody palette.

2. Bouquet Styling

  • Bridal Bouquets: Feature burgundy sweet peas as accent blooms to add depth and dimension to a white or blush bouquet.
  • Monochromatic Statement: Design an all-red bouquet with roses, ranunculus, and red sweet peas for a modern, impactful look.
  • Texture Tip: Add soft filler flowers like astilbe or queen anne’s lace to keep designs from looking too heavy.

3. Centerpieces & Tablescapes

  • Romantic Tables: Use gold or brass compotes with red and burgundy blooms for a luxe effect.
  • Moody Designs: Pair with dark greenery, black vases, and candles for an intimate, dramatic dinner setting.
  • Organic Style: Scatter mini bud vases with sweet peas down a farm table runner for a loose, natural vibe.

4. Ceremony Installations

  • Arches & Chuppahs: Layer burgundy sweet peas into greenery garlands for a rich, dimensional look.
  • Aisle Décor: Tie small posies to ceremony chairs with silk ribbon in deep red, burgundy, or black for a romantic touch.

5. Seasonal & Thematic Styling

  • Fall & Winter Weddings: Burgundy tones pair beautifully with copper, gold, and warm neutrals.
  • Valentine’s Day Events: Combine with classic red roses for an iconic, love-filled theme.

6. Tips for Bulk Orders

  • Sort Stems: Save the longest stems for arches and tall arrangements, and use shorter stems for boutonnieres and bud vases.
  • Hydrate Well: Dark petals need proper hydration to avoid curling or wilting.
  • Consistency: Sprinkle red and burgundy sweet peas throughout all arrangements to unify the event color story.

Care & Handling

Care & Handling Guide for Red Sweet Peas

1. Unpack Immediately

  • Open your box as soon as it arrives.
  • Gently remove bunches — red sweet peas are delicate and show bruising more easily than lighter colors.
  • Keep stems upright while unpacking to prevent bending or snapping.

2. Hydrate & Condition

  • Trim Stems: Cut about ½ inch from the bottom at a diagonal under cool running water.
  • Use Clean Buckets: Fill with fresh, cool water and add flower food if provided.
  • Conditioning Time: Allow 4–6 hours to fully hydrate before arranging — this ensures the flowers open beautifully and retain their vibrant color.

3. Storage Guidelines

  • Temperature: Store at 36–41°F (2–5°C) in a cooler or cool room.
  • Avoid Heat & Light: Direct sunlight or warm air will cause faster wilting and color fading.
  • Keep Away from Ethylene: Do not store near ripening fruit, which produces ethylene gas and shortens vase life.

4. Daily Maintenance

  • Refresh water every 24 hours to keep stems hydrated and bacteria low.
  • Recut stems daily to maximize water uptake.
  • Remove any wilted blooms or leaves to keep bunches looking clean and fresh.

5. Design & Event Tips

  • Keep flowers in water until just before designing.
  • Handle petals carefully — deep red petals can show handling marks more easily.
  • For outdoor events, keep arrangements shaded and cool until setup time to avoid fading.
  • Design arrangements 1–2 days before the event so blooms are at peak beauty.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
