Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Brown/Chocolate Sweet Peas

Available Year-Round

1. Lean Into Earthy Elegance

Brown and chocolate tones are trending for modern weddings.

  • Pair With: Cream roses, cappuccino ranunculus, taupe lisianthus, rust chrysanthemums, or quicksand roses for a soft neutral palette.
  • Add Depth: Combine with burgundy dahlias or black scabiosa for a bold, romantic vibe.

2. Bouquet Styling

  • Bridal Bouquets: Use chocolate sweet peas as accent blooms to add warmth and depth to ivory or blush bouquets.
  • Bridesmaids: Monochromatic bouquets of chocolate sweet peas with copper ribbon make a chic statement.
  • Texture Tip: Layer with dried elements like bunny tails, bleached ruscus, or preserved eucalyptus for a boho feel.

3. Centerpieces & Tablescapes

  • Fall & Winter Designs: Chocolate sweet peas pair beautifully with amber glassware and dark wood tables for a cozy, moody aesthetic.
  • Modern Minimalist: Arrange them in matte black or ceramic vases with minimal greenery for a clean, contemporary look.

4. Installations & Ceremony Décor

  • Statement Arches: Use them with rust, copper, and caramel-toned blooms to create depth.
  • Hanging Features: Incorporate into overhead floral chandeliers for dramatic, intimate lighting.

5. Boutonnieres & Corsages

Their unique color makes for standout boutonniere accents — perfect for fall weddings.

  • Pair with a single ranunculus or hypericum berries for a textured, masculine look.

6. Year-Round Styling

Because they’re tinted and available year-round, you can adapt them to any season:

  • Spring: Pair with pastel roses for a trendy twist.
  • Summer: Use sparingly with bright florals to ground bold palettes.
  • Autumn/Winter: Feature them prominently for deep, cozy color stories.

Care & Handling Guide for Brown/Chocolate Sweet Peas

Available Year-Round

1. Unpack Immediately

  • Open the box as soon as it arrives.
  • Gently remove bunches — tinted sweet peas are delicate and can bruise easily.
  • Handle carefully to avoid damaging petals or rubbing off tint.

2. Proper Hydration

  • Trim Stems: Cut ½ inch off the bottom of each stem at a diagonal under cool, running water.
  • Use Clean Buckets: Fill with fresh, cool water. If using flower food, mix as directed (avoid excess — it may affect tint).
  • Hydrate for 4–6 Hours: Allow stems to fully drink before designing for best appearance and longevity.

3. Storage Conditions

  • Temperature: Keep in a cooler or cool space at 36–41°F (2–5°C).
  • Away from Heat & Sun: Direct light and heat can cause color fading or wilting.
  • Avoid Ethylene Gas: Keep away from ripening fruit to prevent premature aging.

4. Daily Maintenance

  • Change water daily with fresh, cool water.
  • Recut stems every 24 hours for optimal hydration.
  • Remove any petals that show early fading or damage to maintain a clean, fresh look.

5. Design & Event Day Tips

  • Keep flowers hydrated until just before arranging.
  • If designing in foam, pre-soak foam thoroughly to ensure continuous hydration.
  • Display arrangements out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources during the event.
  • Design 1–2 days prior to the event for peak color vibrancy and freshness.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
