Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Assorted Peonies in June (High Season, All Colors)

1. Celebrate Abundance

June is the peak of peony season — all shades from white, blush, light pink, coral, fuchsia, to deep burgundy are at their fullest.

  • Take advantage of variety by mixing shades in one arrangement.
  • Use tone-on-tone palettes (light to dark pinks) for depth and dimension.

2. Bouquet Styling

  • Bridal Bouquets: Classic white or blush peonies for timeless elegance, or mix coral and pink for a cheerful summer vibe.
  • Bridesmaids: Use monochromatic peony bouquets (all blush, all coral, or all dark pink) to complement the bride’s bouquet.
  • Texture Tip: Blend peonies with delicate filler flowers like sweet peas, astilbe, or lisianthus for softness.

3. Centerpieces & Table Décor

  • Luxe Romance: Combine peonies of different shades in compote bowls with trailing greenery.
  • Modern Minimal: Group single-color peonies (all coral, all white, or all burgundy) in sleek glass or ceramic vessels.
  • Farm-Style Weddings: Place mixed peonies in rustic wooden boxes or mason jars for a relaxed, abundant look.

4. Ceremony & Installations

  • Arches & Backdrops: Mix peonies across the color spectrum for a lush, garden-style arch.
  • Aisle Markers: Tie clusters of blush, pink, or coral peonies with silk ribbon for a romantic accent.
  • Hanging Florals: Peonies in suspended arrangements create a dramatic, luxurious focal point.

5. Color Palette Ideas

  • Classic & Elegant: White + blush + soft greenery.
  • Bright & Bold: Coral + hot pink + fuchsia.
  • Moody Romance: Burgundy + deep pink + ivory.
  • Pastel Dream: Blush + peach + lavender accents.

6. Bulk Design Tips

  • Sort by Color: Design in batches — one shade for bouquets, another for tables, etc.
  • Use Buds & Blooms Together: Combine tight buds with fully open peonies for texture and longevity.
  • Hydrate Early: Peonies open quickly — condition 2–3 days before the event for the perfect bloom stage.

Care & Handling

Care & Handling Guide for Fresh Cut Peonies

Peak Season: June

1. Unpack Immediately

  • Open boxes as soon as flowers arrive.
  • Remove sleeves and gently separate stems — peonies bruise easily.
  • Keep upright while unpacking to prevent bending.

2. Hydrate & Condition

  • Trim Stems: Cut ½–1 inch from the bottom at a diagonal under clean, cool running water.
  • Use Clean Buckets: Place in fresh, cool water with flower preservative.
  • Hydration Time: Allow 6–12 hours for blooms to rehydrate before designing.
  • Stage Awareness: Peonies may arrive in marble (tight bud) or soft bud stage — hydrate accordingly for desired opening time.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
