Designing Tips

Let red peonies command attention. Use Red Peonies as focal flowers rather than filling every space with them. Position the largest blooms first and build supporting flowers around them so their rich color and distinctive shape remain visible.

Create a romantic bridal bouquet. Combine Red Peonies at different heights and angles rather than forming a perfectly rounded cluster. Adding smaller blooms between the peonies creates dimension while preserving the dramatic appearance of each flower.

Build depth with tonal colors. Pair red with burgundy and berry shades for a rich monochromatic design, or introduce blush, ivory, white, or pale pink flowers to soften the palette for romantic weddings.

Create dramatic reception centerpieces. Place Red Peonies throughout low compotes or elevated arrangements, repeating the red at several visual points. This distributes the strong color evenly without creating one heavy block of red.

Mix different bloom stages. Use tighter buds alongside partially and fully opened peonies when available. The changing sizes and shapes add texture and make wedding arrangements appear more natural and dimensional.

Allow space for the blooms to expand. Avoid packing peonies tightly against surrounding flowers. Their flower heads become substantially larger as they open, and additional space allows the layered petals to develop beautifully.

Use red strategically in large installations. For ceremony arches, sweetheart tables, welcome arrangements, or statement pieces, group several Red Peonies at key focal points. Repeating these clusters creates continuity and helps the red carry through a large design.

Plan for August temperatures. Hydrate the flowers thoroughly after delivery and keep them cool while they open. Monitor bloom development carefully before the event because warmer temperatures can accelerate the opening process.

FAQ

Are Red Peonies available for weddings in August?
Yes. Red Peonies can be sourced during August from select growing regions. Because peonies are seasonal flowers, availability may vary according to weather conditions and the annual harvest.

Why choose Red Peonies for an August wedding?
Red Peonies combine the luxurious fullness of peonies with a rich, dramatic color. Their large layered blooms create striking focal points in bridal bouquets, centerpieces, ceremony arrangements, and reception flowers.

What colors pair well with Red Peonies?
Red Peonies pair beautifully with blush, burgundy, ivory, white, and soft pink for romantic wedding palettes. They can also be combined with deeper berry tones and greenery for dramatic garden-inspired designs.

Can I use Red Peonies for bridal bouquets?
Absolutely. Red Peonies make exceptional focal flowers for bridal bouquets because their large blooms provide both color and volume. They can be featured predominantly in a dramatic bouquet or mixed with softer flowers for contrast.

Are Red Peonies suitable for wedding centerpieces?
Yes. Their generous bloom size makes them especially effective in centerpieces, where fewer focal flowers can create substantial visual impact. Use them in low compotes, elevated arrangements, or statement reception designs.

Will all Red Peonies be exactly the same shade?
Natural variations in red tones, bloom size, shape, and maturity can occur. Some flowers may appear deeper or brighter as they open, adding natural dimension to bouquets and arrangements.

How far in advance should I order Red Peonies for an August event?
Order as early as possible once your wedding or event date is confirmed. August is outside the traditional spring peony season, so advance ordering provides the best opportunity to secure the quantity needed for your designs.

How should I care for Red Peonies after delivery?
Unpack the flowers promptly, recut the stems at an angle, remove foliage that would fall below the waterline, and place them in clean containers with fresh water. Keep them in a cool area away from direct sunlight and heat while they hydrate.

How large will Red Peonies become when fully open?
Peonies expand considerably as their layered petals open. When designing, leave enough space around each bloom so it can reach its natural size without being crowded by neighboring flowers.

What events are Red Peonies suitable for?
Red Peonies are beautiful for weddings, engagement parties, anniversaries, romantic celebrations, formal dinners, corporate events, and other occasions that call for luxurious, statement-making flowers.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
