Designing Tips

Designing Tips for Blue Baby’s Breath

Blue-tinted baby’s breath offers a whimsical, ethereal touch to floral designs. Here’s how to incorporate it effectively:

  • Color Accent: Use it to add soft blue hues to bridal bouquets, arches, or table arrangements without overpowering the design.
  • Textural Filler: Combine with white roses, peonies, or lisianthus to create depth and texture in centerpieces and cascading bouquets.
  • Stand-Alone Statement: Create clouds or domes of blue baby’s breath in mono-floral installations for a dreamy, modern aesthetic.
  • Boutonnières & Crowns: Ideal for flower crowns, boutonnieres, and corsages due to its airy appearance and light weight.
  • Themed Events: Perfect for baby showers, gender reveals, or winter/spring weddings—its pastel tone enhances event themes with a soft romantic feel.

Care & Handling

Care & Handling Instructions for Blue Baby’s Breath

Blue baby’s breath is often dyed, so extra care ensures freshness and minimizes color bleed:

Upon Arrival:

  • Unpack Gently: Remove bunches carefully to avoid crushing delicate stems or shaking loose dye.
  • Trim the Ends: Cut ½ to 1 inch from stems at a 45° angle under clean running water.
  • Use Gloves if Dyed: The blue dye may rub off on hands or surfaces—handle with care.

Hydration:

  • Place in Fresh Water: Use clean, room-temperature water in a sanitized container. Avoid overfilling to prevent stem rot.
  • No Flower Food Needed: Baby’s breath does not require flower food but benefits from clean water every 2 days.

Storage & Maintenance:

  • Store in Cool Area: Keep in a well-ventilated, cool area (ideally 40–50°F). Avoid direct sunlight and drafts.
  • Change Water Every 2 Days: Recut stems and replace water to extend freshness.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: Leave space for airflow between stems to reduce mold risk and ensure even hydration.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
