Care & Handling

Care & Handling for White Nigella Flowers (Love-in-a-Mist)

To ensure the freshness and longevity of your bulk White Nigella flowers, follow these professional care and handling tips upon arrival:

1. Unpack Immediately Upon Delivery

Gently open your box and remove the White Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist) stems. Handle with care—these are delicate blooms with soft petals and feathery foliage.

2. Re-cut the Stems at an Angle

Using clean, sharp floral shears, trim each stem ½ inch at a 45° angle. This improves water intake and prevents stem blockages.

3. Hydrate in Clean, Cool Water

Place stems in a sanitized floral bucket or vase filled with fresh, cool water. If available, add a floral preservative to boost hydration and vase life. Be sure to remove any leaves that will sit below the waterline.

4. Let Rehydrate in a Shaded, Cool Area

Allow flowers to rehydrate for 4–8 hours in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat, or drafts. This helps restore shape and structure before arranging.

5. Storage Guidelines

Keep flowers at 36°F–50°F for best results. Store away from fruit, as ethylene gas can reduce freshness.

6. Daily Maintenance

Change the water daily, re-trim the stems every 2 days, and remove any wilting blooms. With proper care, White Nigella flowers can stay fresh for 5 to 7 days, making them ideal for weddings, showers, and formal events.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
