Sunflowers Care

o preserve the vivid beauty of your fresh cut sunflowers, it's crucial to follow specific care protocols. Here are some strategies to help your sunflowers flourish:

  1. Initial Watering: After receiving your sunflowers, place them immediately in a sanitized container filled with lukewarm water. Using a floral nourishing solution can significantly boost their longevity.
  2. Cutting Stems: Before arranging in a container, slice each stem diagonally at about an inch from the end to enhance water intake. Utilize a sharp tool for a clean cut.
  3. Light Exposure: Although sunflowers thrive in natural sunlight, cut sunflowers benefit more from placement in indirect lighting. Select a cool, partially shaded area for display.
  4. Periodic Water Change: Alter the water every couple of days. Each time, slightly recut the stems to maintain efficient water absorption.
  5. Moisture Levels: Ensure the ambient atmosphere is adequately humid. Overly dry or hot surroundings can adversely affect the flowers, causing premature fading.
  6. Petal and Foliage Care: Frequently examine your sunflower bouquets, removing any discolored or wilting petals and leaves to uphold their freshness and visual appeal.

By implementing these care methods, your fresh cut sunflowers will continue to infuse your environment with splendid vibrancy for an extended period.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
