Care & Handling

Care & Handling for Blue Nigella Flowers (Love-in-a-Mist)

To maximize freshness and beauty of your Blue Nigella wedding flowers, follow these professional care and handling guidelines immediately upon delivery:

1. Unpack Carefully Upon Arrival

Open your box immediately and gently remove the Blue Nigella stems. These are delicate blooms, so avoid rough handling or stacking to prevent petal bruising.

2. Re-cut the Stems

Using sharp, sanitized floral shears, trim at least ½ inch off each stem at a 45° angle. This increases water uptake and keeps your flowers hydrated.

3. Hydrate in Clean Water

Place the stems in a clean vase or floral bucket filled with fresh, cool water. Add floral preservative if available. Remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline.

4. Let Rehydrate in a Cool, Shaded Area

Allow flowers to rehydrate for 4–8 hours in a well-ventilated, shaded space. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or near heat sources.

5. Ongoing Maintenance

Change the water daily and re-trim the stems every 2 days to prolong vase life. Handle carefully when arranging to prevent petal shedding.

6. Storage Tip for Events

Keep your Blue Nigella flowers in a floral cooler or environment between 36°F–50°F. Proper storage helps maintain structure and color for 5–7 days, perfect for weddings and next-day setups.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
