Shop Wholesale Fresh Sheet Moss - The Most Versatile Moss for Weddings & Crafts

If you only buy one moss for your wedding, event, or design project — make it Sheet Moss. Often called carpet moss for its flat, plush, lawn-like appearance, our fresh-cut Sheet Moss is the most versatile moss variety on the market and the #1 choice for DIY brides, working florists, and crafters across the country. It comes in flat, easy-to-handle pieces (typically 4"x4" up to 12"x7") that can be laid out, cut, layered, or wrapped to cover virtually any surface — from wedding table runners and centerpieces to terrariums, fairy gardens, monogram letters, and moss walls. Order in bulk online and get the freshest, most workable Sheet Moss shipped straight from the farm to your door.

The DIY Bride's & Florist's Favorite for Wedding Decor

Sheet Moss is hands-down the most popular moss for weddings — and for good reason. Its flat, plush form makes it perfect for table runners that mimic a "moss garden" down the length of a banquet table, for covering monogram letters and signage, and for wrapping escort card displays. Brides love it because it stretches a tight wedding budget — one bulk box can transform multiple tables. Pair it with our affordable DIY wedding flowers to build complete centerpieces and bouquets without the florist markup — Sheet Moss as the lush green base, blooms of your choice on top.

The Florist's Secret for Floral Foam Coverage

Working florists buy Sheet Moss for one task above all others: covering floral foam. The flat, plush form drapes beautifully over foam blocks, balls, wreaths, and cages — instantly transforming exposed gray foam into a polished, natural-looking design surface. Whether you're building wedding arch arrangements, sympathy pieces, or large centerpieces, Sheet Moss is the fastest, most professional finish you can get. Browse our wholesale floral foam collection to pair with your Sheet Moss order — buying both together saves on shipping and keeps your design supplies in one box.

Endless Uses Beyond the Wedding Aisle

Sheet Moss's versatility extends far beyond weddings. It's a top pick for terrarium hobbyists, fairy garden builders, reptile keepers, and orchid growers — its flat form is the ideal "ground cover" for vivariums and miniature scenes, and its natural moisture retention helps humidity-loving plants thrive. Use it to top potted orchids, line hanging baskets, or build out detailed moss walls and living art panels. For event planners and stylists building full tablescapes, browse our wholesale wedding centerpieces for inspiration and supplies that pair beautifully with a Sheet Moss base. With proper care, our fresh-cut Sheet Moss has a long shelf life, ships farm-direct, and can even be replanted in shaded outdoor garden spots when you're done.

Designing Tips

Sheet Moss Design Tips: How to Cover Any Surface Like a Pro

Sheet Moss's superpower is its ability to transform almost any surface into a lush green canvas — but getting that polished, professional look takes a few designer tricks. Here are the techniques top florists and wedding designers use to get the most out of every box.

Lay Pieces with the Grain Going the Same Direction

Sheet Moss has a subtle "grain" or natural growth direction. When you lay multiple pieces side by side for table runners, monograms, or large surfaces, position all the pieces with the grain running the same way. This creates a seamless, flowing carpet look — versus a patchy, mismatched appearance. Stand back every few minutes while assembling to check the visual flow from a distance.

Cut to Fit, But Don't Trim Too Tight

Sheet Moss can be cut with sharp scissors to fit specific shapes — perfect for monogram letters, signage, and custom centerpiece bases. The trick: always cut about ½ inch larger than your target shape. Sheet Moss naturally compresses slightly when handled, and you'll need that extra material to cover edges cleanly. For curved shapes, make small relief cuts along the back so the moss bends without buckling.

Use Spray Adhesive for Vertical Designs

If you're applying Sheet Moss to vertical surfaces like wedding signage, monogram letters, or moss walls, use a strong floral spray adhesive or hot glue. Press the moss firmly onto the surface and hold for 10–15 seconds to set. For longer-lasting holds, layer adhesive in sections rather than coating the entire surface at once — this prevents drying before you've finished pressing the moss in place.

Mist for Vibrancy Right Before the Event

Sheet Moss looks its absolute greenest and most vibrant when freshly misted. About 1–2 hours before your event or photoshoot, lightly spray it with water to bring out the deep, lush green color. Avoid soaking — too much water makes Sheet Moss heavy and drippy, especially on tablecloths and signage. A light misting is all it takes to make your moss displays look magazine-ready.

FAQ

Sheet Moss FAQs

What is Sheet Moss and why is it called carpet moss?

Sheet Moss (botanically known as Hypnum) is a true moss that grows in flat, carpet-like layers across forest floors and shaded woodlands. It earned the nickname "carpet moss" because of its plush, lawn-like appearance — when laid out, it looks just like a soft, miniature green carpet. It's one of the most common and versatile mosses used in floral design, weddings, and craft projects.

How much Sheet Moss do I need for a wedding table runner?

For an 8-foot banquet table, you'll typically need around 5–7 pounds of fresh Sheet Moss to create a full, lush table runner that runs the length of the table. For a 10-foot table, plan for 8–10 pounds. We always recommend ordering 10–15% extra to allow for trimming, edge coverage, and any natural variation in piece size. Because Sheet Moss has a long shelf life, leftover moss can be saved for future projects.

Can fresh Sheet Moss be replanted in my garden?

Yes — fresh Sheet Moss has one of the highest replanting success rates of any moss variety. It thrives in shaded, moist outdoor areas with rich, slightly acidic soil. To replant, clear the area of debris, press the Sheet Moss firmly onto the soil or stone surface, and mist daily for the first few weeks until established. It works wonderfully as ground cover for shaded garden paths, around stepping stones, and in spots where grass struggles to grow.

Will Sheet Moss stain my tablecloths or surfaces?

Fresh Sheet Moss can occasionally release small amounts of natural moisture or fine debris when handled — so for white or delicate tablecloths, place a clear plastic liner or moisture barrier underneath your moss runner. Avoid soaking the moss before placing it on fabric surfaces. Light misting just before guests arrive gives you the lush look without the moisture transfer.

What's the difference between Sheet Moss and Mood Moss?

Sheet Moss grows in flat, carpet-like sheets — perfect for covering large flat surfaces like table runners, monograms, and centerpiece bases. Mood Moss grows in rounded, plump clumps — ideal for adding sculptural dimension and height. Most professional designers use them together: Sheet Moss as the flat base layer, with Mood Moss clumps placed on top for depth and texture.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
