Designing Tips

Designing Tips with Lavender & Purple Fragrant Lilac

For Brides

  1. Romantic Bouquets:

Lavender lilac’s soft hue brings a dreamy, vintage charm to bridal bouquets. Pair it with ivory roses, blush peonies, and dusty miller for a balanced, elegant color palette.

  2. Textural Depth:

The clustered florets of lilac add volume and natural movement. Combine with trailing greenery like jasmine vine or Italian ruscus for a whimsical garden feel.

  3. Fragrance Accent:

Their natural perfume creates an unforgettable sensory moment during the ceremony — perfect for intimate indoor weddings or open-air garden venues.

For Event Planners

  1. Centerpieces & Tablescapes:

Arrange lavender lilac in gold or clear glass vases alongside lisianthus, sweet peas, and mauve roses for a soft, cohesive look. Their gentle fragrance enhances guest experience.

  2. Backdrop & Entry Décor:

Use lilac stems in archways, photo backdrops, or escort card displays. Their layered blooms photograph beautifully, adding texture and luxury to event styling.

  3. Color Pairing:

Lavender lilac harmonizes with blush, champagne, cream, silver, or sage — or stands out elegantly when paired with deep purples and soft blues.

For General Décor & Gifting

  1. Home Arrangements:

Display fresh lilac in ceramic, crystal, or rustic wooden vases for a chic spring look. Refresh the water daily to preserve their delicate scent.

  2. Gift Presentation:

Tie lavender lilac stems with silk ribbon or kraft paper for a simple, aromatic floral gift. Add a personalized note for weddings, birthdays, or anniversaries.

  3. Ambience & Styling:

Their fragrance softly perfumes any space — perfect for spas, boutique shops, or home entryways seeking a calm, welcoming feel.

Pro Designer Tip

Lilac stems are woody — crush or split the bottom inch of each stem before placing them in water. This boosts hydration and helps the blooms last longer, keeping arrangements vibrant throughout your event.

Care and Handling

Fresh Lavender & Purple Lilac Care and Handling Guide

1. Upon Arrival

  • Unpack Immediately:

Carefully remove lilac bunches from their box as soon as they arrive to prevent moisture buildup or petal bruising.

  • Trim Stems:

Recut stems at a 45° angle under lukewarm, clean water using sharp floral shears or a knife.

  • Remove Lower Foliage:

Strip any leaves that fall below the waterline to avoid bacteria growth and ensure clean hydration.

2. Hydration & Conditioning

  • Deep Buckets:

Place stems in tall, clean buckets filled with lukewarm water and a professional flower preservative (or a homemade mix of 1 tsp sugar + a drop of bleach per quart).

  • Initial Hydration:

Allow lilacs to rest and hydrate in a cool, shaded area for 4–6 hours before designing.

  • Misting:

Mist blooms lightly throughout the day—lilac florets dehydrate quickly but respond well to gentle surface moisture.

3. Temperature & Storage

  • Ideal Temperature:

Keep lilacs at 38–45°F (3–7°C) in a floral cooler or air-conditioned space.

  • Avoid Direct Sun & Drafts:

Store away from heat sources, fans, or direct sunlight.

  • No Ethylene Exposure:

Do not store near ripening fruit—ethylene gas causes petals to wilt and brown prematurely.

4. Extending Vase Life

  • Change Water Daily:

Replace vase water every 24 hours and re-cut stems each time.

  • Split or Crush Stem Ends:

Lilac stems are woody—gently crush the lower 1 inch of the stem with a hammer or floral knife to improve water absorption.

  • Longevity:

With proper care, lilacs typically last 4–6 days; cooler environments and clean water extend their beauty and fragrance.

5. Design & Display Tips

  • Handle with Care:

Lilac blooms bruise easily—arrange them last when designing mixed arrangements.

  • Combine with Soft Florals:

Pair with peonies, roses, stock, or tulips for lush, romantic textures.

  • Display Thoughtfully:

Showcase arrangements in cooler areas of your venue or home to preserve color and scent.

Pro Tip for Reviving Wilted Lilac

If stems start to droop, re-cut and fully submerge the entire bunch (blooms and all) in lukewarm water for 30–45 minutes. This deep hydration method can restore freshness and fragrance.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
