Care & Handling

Care & Handling — Plum Antique Green Hydrangea

Upon receiving your Plum Antique Green Hydrangeas, unpack them immediately and remove all packaging materials. Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle under water using a sharp floral knife (avoid scissors to prevent crushing the stem tissue). Remove 2–3 inches of foliage from the lower stem to avoid rot and enhance water absorption.

Submerge the entire head in cool, clean water for 10–15 minutes to rehydrate, then place stems in a bucket of fresh water with floral preservative. Keep the flowers in a cool room away from direct sunlight, drafts, or ripening fruit, as these can reduce vase life. Hydrangeas are heavy drinkers—check water levels twice daily.

To revive limp heads, soak them entirely in water for up to 30 minutes. Their antique coloration may intensify slightly as they hydrate and age, adding more depth to your arrangement. Store in refrigeration at 36–50°F if not used immediately. Avoid freezing temperatures.

With proper care, these blooms can maintain their stunning appearance throughout your event and beyond.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
