Care & Handling

Care & Handling (Red Hydrangea Green Gold Chameleon)

Hydration is key for the Red Hydrangea Green Gold Chameleon to retain its bold chameleon coloring and fullness. Upon arrival, remove all packaging and submerge the flower heads in cool water for 20–30 minutes to rehydrate the petals. Cut stems at a sharp angle (about 1 inch from the bottom) under running water to prevent air blockage and place them immediately in a clean bucket filled with fresh, cool water.

Avoid using scissors—opt for a floral knife or pruners to prevent stem damage. These hydrangeas are sensitive to temperature and should be stored in a cool area away from direct sunlight, drafts, or fruit. Mist the petals daily to retain moisture, especially in dry environments. Change water daily, and recut stems every other day for optimal vase life.

To boost hydration, peel 2 inches of the outer stem and make a vertical split to improve water intake. These blooms are natural yet artistically toned, so avoid ethylene gas exposure (bananas or apples nearby) to preserve their unique color integrity.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
If you are unsure what day to select, pick the best available date you can, we suggest 3 days prior to the event. OR you can contact our flower care experts by chat or email to help you decide which date is best for you.
