Care & Handling

Care & Handling: Aspidistra Leaves

  1. Upon Arrival:
Unpack immediately and remove any damaged leaves. Aspidistra leaves are shipped in bunches and may be slightly compressed during transit.
  2. Hydration:
Cut 1/2 inch off the stem ends at an angle and place in fresh, cool water. Let them hydrate for 4–6 hours in a cool, shaded area before use.
  3. Storage:
Store leaves in a floral cooler or refrigerator at 36–42°F. Avoid placing near fresh fruit or direct airflow, which can cause dehydration.
  4. Design Tips:
    • Use entire leaves or cut them into decorative shapes.
    • Ideal for creating loops, spirals, and vase linings.
    • Mist occasionally to keep a glossy finish.
  5. Lifespan:
With proper care, Aspidistra leaves can last 10–14 days or more, depending on environment and usage.
  6. Pro Tip:
Want that high-end look? Line your glass vases with a single Aspidistra leaf for a clean, elegant finish that hides floral stems and adds a pop of rich green.

Tips for ordering
  • We recommend that most flowers be scheduled to be delivered 2-3 days prior to an event. All flowers are harvested just prior to delivery.
  • Delicate flowers such as Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, and Stephanotis are best when delivered 1-2 days before the event.
  • Iris have a short vase life so the delivery should be scheduled 2 days prior to your event.
  • Lotus have a short vase life so they need to be ordered 1-2 days prior to events.
  • Peonies and Ranunculus may take longer to open during cold months. Schedule delivery of these flowers 3-4 days prior to your event.
  • Alstroemeria, Gladiolus, Agapanthus, Stars of Bethlehem, Sunflowers, and Lilies may require at least 3 days for blooming. Consider scheduling delivery of these flowers 3-4 days before your event.
  • Blooming branches for Jan and Feb deliveries should be scheduled for delivery at least 7 - 10 days before your event to permit adequate blooming. Expect blooming in 10 days with cold weather. For March and later, a 4-5 day lead time before your wedding or event is suggested for proper blooming.
  • Pumpkin branches schedule delivery 2 to 3 days prior to your event.
  • For Manzanita branches, if you would like the farm to remove the leaves, this needs to be requested in advance.
