Roses are one of the best and most widely distributed gifts these days. They are perfect flower to spread love, joy and freshness in the mind a person. In our society they are so widely accepted that various colours of roses are given as a gesture for various circumstances in life. This means that various emotions are associated with different colours of roses.

In spite of all these there is a one serious problem with roses or for that matter with every other flowers. Which is that they die very quickly. The thing with roses is that every different type has its own shell life. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there could be a way to increase the life of the bouquet of roses from couple of days to several weeks? If something like this can be done,then roses can become an even more sought after present. But this is not just wishful thinking, there are many different ways one can extend the life of the cut roses and easily make them last for several days.

1. Use Sanitation Of Water And Vase

To start off with use sanitation. This is one of the best ways by which you can make any rose bouquet of rose last for longer duration. This is also one of the most neglected methods when it comes to extending the life of flower. To begin this process, take a big clean vase. Not the one which you rinsed of but a fresh new one, which has been completely washed with hot, soapy water. Make sure that you scrub the vase nicely with a bottle brush so that you can eliminate all the left residue which gets build-up inside the vase. after this is done, soak the vase in a diluted solution of bleach for couple of minutes. (add one cup for every gallon of water). One can also run the vase through a dishwasher for hot soapy wash and then rinse it with cold water. Vases which are used over and over again without proper cleaning can accumulate bacteria’s which can damage the freshly cut flowers. Cutter which is used for the purpose of cutting the rose should also be regularly cleaned and wiped with a solution of alcohol or bleach.

If you have your own rose garden then its recommended that you water the roses properly night before you plan to cut the roses. By this the plant will soak up all the required water and provide an extra couple of days to last.

3. Best Time To Cut The Roses

Most of the times it is recommended that roses should be cut between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM in the morning. At times it’s also preferred if you cut the roses as early as at 6AM, if there is enough day light at that time. If you live in a place where there is excess dew, then you may have to cut the roses a bit late during the day.

We do not have any control over the weather, but it should be noted that roses last longer in cooler weather and will also deteriorate quickly in hotter weathers. If the weather in your area is cool, then you can cut the roses throughout the day.

Openness degree of the flower will depend upon how are you planning to use the flowers. if you want them for bouquet in your house then you need them to last for longer durations. This means that you can cut them just after the budding stage with the rose petals just starting to unfurl.
