Your fresh cut TULIP flowers will need to be hydrated upon arrival.

  • Unpack your bulk flowers as soon as you receive them and cut off about one-half to one inch of each stem at an angle (under water if possible) with a sharp knife, NOT scissors. After trimming, quickly place each stem into a bucket filled with filtered (de-chlorinated) water. Add floral preservative if available. Remove wilted foliage that could later fall into the water to avoid bacteria growth.
  • If your flowers are going to be used in a few days, try to store them in a cool room (no cooler than 40F). Keep flowers in water at all times to hydrate them and add floral preservative. If floral preservative is not available, pour a spoon of sugar in the water (to help open the flowers) and one drop of bleach (to keep bacteria away). Do not put more than one drop of bleach. Replace water and floral preservative every two days to help extend your flowers' long vase life. Do not store flowers in front of an AC unit since blowing air can dry your flowers, or inside a kitchen refrigerator as ethylene gas from fruits and vegetables can wilt your flowers.
  • Keep Tulips in abundant water since they are heavy water drinkers. The Average vase life of fresh cut tulips is 5 days.
  • Leave enough room for Tulips to grow and move even if they are arranged to fit into certain combinations.Tulip flowers are one of the few wholesale flowers known to keep growing after they have been cut. Once they are placed in water, they will keep growing.
  • These flowers should preferably be processed and held at very low temperatures as they are cold weather crops.
  • Note: Some flowers like Tulips open in the light due to the nature of the type of flower. This phenomenon is not related to the freshness of the flower.
