Your Heliconia Flowers just arrived! Now they need to be hydrated and processed. It is important to give your exotic tropical flowers a couple of hours to hydrate and replenish. Depending on the variety purchased, some fresh cut flowers may need 24 to 36 hours to hydrate and perk up.
CARE AND HANDLING FOR HELICONIA GREEN FLOWER
- Place your exotic tropical flowers in clean, fresh, filtered water. Carefully remove leaves, or foliage that fall under the water level (without tearing the stem skin) to avoid the build-up of bacteria. Cut one inch off the end of the stem in a 45-degree angle (with a sharp knife NOT scissors) to allow water to be better absorbed through the stems. After cutting the stem at an angle, quickly place your exotic tropical flowers in water since it only takes a minute for the stem to dry and seal up.
- Keep your exotic tropical flowers in a shaded, cool, relatively humid area (not cooler than 60F). Avoid placing your exotic tropical flowers near hot surfaces or environments. Exotic tropical flowers must be in water at all times until they are ready to be used.
- When storing your exotic tropical flowers, do not move them from hot to cold or cold to hot temperatures to avoid that they get hypothermia. Drastic changes in temperature burns fresh cut flowers. When handling exotic tropical flowers keep in mind that cold weather can affect them, keep your exotic tropical flowers in a relative warm area away from direct sunlight.
- Do not keep your exotic tropical flowers in the refrigerator overnight since many fruit and vegetable gases can damage your fresh cut flowers.
