Heliconia comes in exciting tropical colors, including vibrant red, orange, yellow and green. It has also been called “lobster-claw,” because of the claw-like shape of petals it bears. Its name comes from Greek mythology which is named after Mount Helicon. Mount Helicon happened to be the seat of nine goddesses that ruled over arts and sciences. This species can grow pretty tall and some 3-30 feet. It makes an exotic flower for floral arrangements.
