TIPS TO ARRANGE WHOLESALE FLOWERS FOR WEDDINGS & EVENTS

How to Achieve a Longer Flower Vase Life

Keeping cut flowers fresh for a longer period of time depends on the hydration and conditioning given to the flowers after you receive them. To achieve long flower vase life; cut stems with floral shears at an angle since this allows water to be better absorbed; place the flowers in filtered (non chlorinated) warm water and add floral preservative immediately after cutting since it takes a minute for the stem to begin to dry and seal up; keep flowers at a cool temperature, out of direct light and place them somewhere where there is good airflow. Furthermore, remove foliage that falls under the water level and replace water regularly to avoid bacteria to buildup. Flowers should be placed in cleaned containers. Preferably use plastic or glass containers when hydrating flowers.

Do not place flowers into metal, clay, or stone containers since these materials may contain elements that are harmful for the flowers. If the flowers ordered have long stems, place them in deep containers to avoid that the stems break or bend.

How to Treat Fresh Flowers that Tend to Bend or Wilt

Flowers such as snapdragons, gerberas, and some spray roses tend to bend since they have hollow stems. You can use floral wire to straightening flowers when arranging them. Insert the wire inside of the stem strong part above the bent area and below the flower head. To give the stem a natural look, wrap floral tape around the stem to cover the wire.

Additional tips to straighten wilted flowers include summerging the flowers upside down into cold water for at least 2-3 hours or rolling individual stems on tight damp paper or a piece of newspaper and lining them up for 3-4 hours. Make sure that when wrapping individual stems, the paper is very tight and secured with tape, a rubber band, or stapples to ensure that the stems will be 100% straight. Once all the stems are rolled in paper place them into water for more than a few hours.

How to Treat Fresh Flowers that Tend to Break

Hollow stems tend to break easier than solid stems. Also there are some flowers like Lilies and Delphiniums that tend to break very easily when being arranged or placed into water. These flowers break since their heads are big and heavy. To avoid this to happen, tie with twine the tip and middle part of the flower stem to a stick or straight branch with a loose knot while hydrating.

Tips to Make Centerpieces for Your Wedding or Event

1. Select flower colors and size that will fit the theme and space selected for your wedding or event.

2. Choose greens and fillers that will enhance the flowers selected. Sometimes few flowers and greens look more stunning and sophisticated.

3. Select a vase that will go well with the rest of the decorations in the event. The size of the vases for the centerpieces should depend on the size of each table. Tables that sit 4-6 people should have small centerpieces as a decoration. Long tables that sit more than 8-12 people should have long and relatevely slim centerpieces.

4. There are three main tools to make a beautiful centerpiece aside from your crafty skills and creativity. You will need a beautiful vase, a piece of oasis damped with a blend of non-chlorinated water and floral preservative, and floral shears or prunes depending on the thinkness of the stems. We do not recommend to use floral foam. While it holds each flower in place, it covers and clogs the stem ends shortening the flowers vase life.

Tips to Make Bouquets, Corsages, and Boutonnieres for Your Wedding

1. Select type of flowers, fillers and greens that will match the brides color theme.

2. For bride and bridemaid bouquets, we recommend a simple selection of fresh cut flowers and greens. Sometimes having only the same type and color of flower without fillers and greens makes bouquets more exclusive and the bride looks more elegant.

3. Clean and hydrate the flowers selected for the bouquets 2-3 days prior to the wedding and change water periodically. For the bride and bridemaid bouquets, the flower stems are small or middle size depending on the bride's preference. After cuting the stems to the same size, wrap the stems VERY TIGHTLY with a strap of fabric similar to the bride's gown, a beautiful ribbon or floral tape. You can wrap the stems all the way to the end or just in the middle depending on your preference.

4. The boutonnieres can use some of the same flowers or colors used for the bride and bridemaid bouquets. They can be made with a single flower or a flower and a little bit of greens (e.g., letter leaf, gypso, solidago, hypericum). The stems need to be cut very close to the head of the flower leaving some space to tighten the flowers and greens. Use floral tape or twine to wrap the boutonnieres and add a little cloth pin to the back of each boutonniere.
